Jhiri Mela (jhirimela.site) is an independent cultural and devotional initiative founded with a profound mission: to document, celebrate, and preserve the sacred heritage of Baba Jitto Ji and Bua Kodi Ji, two revered figures whose sacrifice and devotion stand at the very heart of Dogra identity.
Every year on Kartik Purnima, an estimated 15 Lakhs devotees and farmers gather at the sacred soil of Jhiri village in Jammu (annual gathering: 15 Lakhs estimation). Our website bridges the geographical distance, offering devotees worldwide authentic historical accounts, festival dates, ritual guidance, photographic archives, and travel logistics.
"Sukki kanak na khayaan mehta, ruttan naal samait" — "Do not eat raw grain, O Mehta, without taking my blood with it." The immortal cry of Baba Jitto Ji against feudal injustice remains a timeless symbol of peasant dignity and righteous courage.
2. Who Runs This Website
This website is built and maintained by devoted members of the Dogra community, researchers, and local volunteers passionate about regional folklore and spiritual heritage. We work in close harmony with oral custodians, local elders, and devotees who have witnessed the vibrant traditions of Jhiri Mela over many decades.
We are not a commercial enterprise. Our primary goal is to provide a free, accessible, beautifully designed, and authentic digital archive so that the younger generation and global pilgrims can understand the spiritual and social depth of this sacred pilgrimage.
3. Commitment to Authenticity & Research
Dogra folklore has been preserved primarily through oral ballads called Kaarkaan and traditional folk singing (Bhaakh). While slight variations in local storytelling exist across different clans and villages, we strive to present the core, universally accepted narrative:
- The Supreme Sacrifice: Baba Jitto's unyielding stand for honest labor, refusing to surrender his hard-earned crop to an unjust landlord.
- Bua Kodi Ji's Divine Devotion: The nine-year-old daughter whose immense spiritual devotion (Dasham Shakti) led her to offer her own life upon her father's pyre, forever immortalizing her sacred grace.
- Bawa Talab (The Sacred Pond): The revered water body where taking a holy dip is believed to wash away skin ailments and fulfill sincere prayers.
- Langar & Social Harmony: The spirit of unconditional community feeding and brotherhood uniting people across all castes and regions.

प्रत्येक वर्ष कार्तिक पूर्णिमा के पावन अवसर पर देश-विदेश से लगभग 15 लाख श्रद्धालु (वार्षिक समागम: 15 लाख अनुमानित) जम्मू के झिरी गाँव की पावन धरती पर नतमस्तक होते हैं। हमारी वेबसाइट इस ऐतिहासिक तीर्थ की संपूर्ण जानकारी—इतिहास, दर्शन, मेला तिथियां, पूजा विधि और मार्गदर्शिका—डिजिटल माध्यम से उपलब्ध कराती है।

डोगरा समाज में बाबा जित्तो जी का इतिहास मुख्यतः लोक गायकों (गार्डी) द्वारा गाई जाने वाली पारंपरिक 'कारकों' के माध्यम से पीढ़ी-दर-पीढ़ी जीवित रहा है। हमारी टीम ने स्थानीय बुजुर्गों, मंदिर समिति के विवरणों और लोक परंपराओं से तथ्यों का संकलन कर इसे प्रस्तुत किया है:
- स्वाभिमान का प्रतीक: बाबा जित्तो जी का पसीने की कमाई पर डाका डालने वालों के सामने न झुकने का आदर्श।
- बुआ कोड़ी जी की शक्ति: मात्र नौ वर्ष की आयु में पिता के सतीत्व में समाहित होकर दशम शक्ति के रूप में पूजित होने की अलौकिक गाथा।
- बावा तालाब: वह पवित्र सरोवर जिसमें स्नान करने से चर्म रोग दूर होने और मनवांछित फल प्राप्त होने की अटूट मान्यता है।
- अटूट लंगर एवं समरसता: जाति-पांति के भेदभाव से परे सभी भक्तों के लिए निरंतर चलने वाला प्रेम और सेवा का पावन लंगर।
